Healius Institute scoops GP Synergy Training Awards

The decision by the Healius Institute to invest heavily in GP education and support has been given an important boost after Michael Archibald was named “Practice Manager of the Year” and Dr Fadi Abouzeid won “Supervisor of the Year at the GP Synergy Awards in Sydney tonight.

Both award winners work as part of the Healius Institute team. This means the Healius Institute won the top gongs for both practice management support and GP supervision.

Dr Fadi Abouzeid is based in Campsie in NSW and he has been supporting the Healius Institute since its inception. He has a long history of working with both AGPT registrars and medical students.

“The award is very gratifying at a number of levels,” said Dr Abouzeid. “It shows the positive contribution the Healius Institute is making to GP education. And it’s also great to see our Campsie practice building a positive reputation as a training site for young doctors.”

Head of the Healius Institute, Mark Priddle, said the award spoke volumes to the efforts of Healius to play a more collaborative role in progressing medical training in consultation with GP training providers.

“Healius’ commitment to GP training goes right across the industry. There are many doctors who co-ordinate their training via the services of the Healius Institute who will never end up working for Healius. That’s fine by us because we take a broader industry perspective,” said Priddle.

Mark Priddle said the award by Michael Archibald was very well deserved.

“Michael’s position is unique in Australia in that he is responsible for overseeing the progress of all Registrars who come through the Institute program.” said Priddle.

Mr Archibald manages the registrar program for the Healius Institute and acts as the key conduit between Healius and registrar placements around Australia.

Michael said he was delighted to win the award.

“It’s a unique Registrar training approach by Healius and it’s showing great results for those that are part of it. It’s terrific to be involved in it,” said Michael.
